Pillowtop mattress for your dolls
A very generic tutorial on how I made a pillow top mattress for my dolls. The reason I made the mattress is because of the way too small beds that you can find ready made. I needed a double/queen bed long enough to fit some of the taller dolls and one that didn't sit on the floor!
Pillowtop Mattress
I used pre-quilted fabric for the pillowtop. The foam mattress is a 1: foam cushion cut to size. The finished size is 9 1/2" x 13" long. True 1/6 scale queen mattress would have been 10" wide. Sorry, I made this without checking scale.
Just sew piping around one piece. some batting and same prequilted fabric on other side. Pillow top is seperate and is just that... a very large pillow. I attached the pillow top to the mattress by hand sewing it on. Nothing fancy, just simple slip stitches.
I added hand pulls which is nothing more than 1" strips folded in half and stitched, then turned right side out. As you make the mattress cover, make sure they are sewn into the seams at the same time.
Box Springs
The box springs are nothing more than a box top. I managed to find one the same size as the mattress I had made. The box springs were an afterthought, so you may want to find the box top first and make mattress to fit. A block of wood would work, too, or even styrofoam. I was looking for something a bit more sturdy.
Glue around the edges some batting to give it the rounded look.
Breather holes on the sides are nothing more than eyelets/grommets.
